My name is Kelly Risner and I have been teaching for 12 years, all of them here at Decker! I have taught PreKindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and even spent a year as a Reading Interventionist. I am excited about teaching 2nd grade again this year.  My passion is to create well rounded, lifelong learners.

I attended Texas State University-San Marcos, and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.  I am currently working on my Master’s degree in Library Science online at Texas Woman's University.

Classroom Expectations

My classroom rules are founded on respect.

  • We will treat others respectfully.
  • We will treat materials respectfully.
  • We will keep ourselves and others safe.

In our classroom, we understand that sometimes students make mistakes.  Sometimes there are consequences to our actions.  Here are the consequences:

  • Warning-A chance to rethink our choices.
  • Strike 1-Move clip down to yellow, 2-5 minute sit out.
  • Strike 2-Move clip down to orange, 5-10 minute sit out, call parents.
  • Strike 3-Move clip to red, referral to office to talk with the Principal

In our classroom we have the opportunity to earn rewards.  Students can earn Dolphin tickets to spend at the Dolphin Depot.  Tables can earn table points with a goal of 10 points to get a prize from our prize box.  Students can also earn privileges, such as lunch bunch, lunch with a friend in the classroom, homework passes, extra library or technology time, etc.
