Each elementary campus has one literacy coach, whose primary role is to work with Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade teachers. This is my 5th year at DES and I am proud to support Decker students, teachers, and families in our collaborative effort to provide relevant, additive, and effective literacy instruction on campus. My responsibilities on campus include the following:
  • Literacy Coaches will meet with K-2 PLCs bi-weekly; once for literacy planning and once for PD/Data Digs as determined by campus needs
  • Literacy Coaches will attend monthly ongoing PD with teachers (1st Wednesday of the month) in order to provide follow-up at the campus level
  • Conduct balanced literacy walkthroughs on K-2 teachers weekly
  • Monitor K-2 Reading Data from TPRI, Tejas Lee, DRA, EDL, writing rubrics, guided reading data, classroom assessments, observational data, etc.
  • Monitor K-2 Writing Portfolios - 2 published pieces per nine weeks (1 expository and 1 choice writing)
  • Communicate literacy plan with campus parents - host at least one literacy night per year
  • Partner with campus principal and district leadership in directing literacy instructional services to meet student needs
  • Assist district in implementation of K-2 Primary Reading Initiative Plan
  • Assist in administering universal screeners (TPRI, Tejas Lee, DRA)
  • Monitor and manage the DRA Data wall with students’ individual reading levels
