Ms Bennett's Class

Greetings!

My name is Brittnee Bennett and I am a 1st grade teacher at Decker Elementary School.  I am happy to announce that this is my 6th year teaching and my 3rd year at Decker.  In my six years in the field of education, I have taught pre-k, 4th grade, and 1st grade.  I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2009. Shortly afterward I became certified to teach ESL and early childhood through the 6th grade.   Education is important to me.  I believe that it is my job as an educator to ensure that every student shows academic growth and is prepared for the next step in their academic career.  I look forward to a great school year!

Best Wishes,

Brittnee Bennett

Our Classroom Rules

  1. We work as a team
  2. We are responsible
  3. We listen to others
  4. We respect everyone
  5. We are kind and helpful
  6. We always do our best

Students are expected to stay seated during mini-lessons, during centers, and during independent work.  Flexible seating is available in the classroom if they do not want to stay seated at their desks.   Students are expected to walk indoors.

At Decker Elementary we have voice level rules that are as follows.

Level 0 = Silence  (During Testing and instructional times)

Level 1 = Whisper (During quiet time, or independent work)

Level 2 =  Loud enough for the person next to you to hear (While working with others in class, and eating in the cafeteria. )

Level 3 = Loud enough for the room to hear (public speaking)

Level 4 = shouting (Outside on the playground)

Students will be allowed to go to the restroom two at a time during center’s time.  We will take a whole group restroom break before specials, and before/after lunch.  Students are not allowed to leave the room during testing times and lessons unless it is an emergency.

Students who follow these expectations consistently will be rewarded with:

Fun Friday

Dolphin Tickets for Dolphin Depot

Treasure chest prizes

iPad games

Dojo points

Students who choose not to follow the expectations will receive:

Strikes ( 3 = a referral to the principal’s office)

Timeout

Lunch Detention

Walk laps at recess

Homework Policy

Homework is expected to be completed every night.  I check for it in binders every morning.  Homework is worth 10% of a student's overall grade.  If a student completes their homework and turns it in at any point during the most current grading period, it will be entered as a 100 in the grade book.   Homework that is not turned in will be entered as a 50 in the grade book.

What can you do to help your child be successful?

* Read a book with your child every night
* practice letters and letter sounds
* Practice sight word list
* reinforce math addition and subtraction facts with flashcards
