Hello! My name is Lauressa Pitz and I'm so excited to be at Decker teaching AIM this year. This will be my 4th year teaching AIM and my 9th year in education. I have my BFA in Theatre from Sam Houston State University and a BA in Spanish from Texas State University. I even lived in Spain for 10 months as a Kinder teacher assistant in a bilingual school. I feel very blessed and privileged to work with these amazing students every day!
What is AIM?
AIM is the Gifted and Talented Program in Manor ISD. After the students are identified for the program, they are pulled once a week so they can work on higher level projects. *AIM's structure consists of Brain Teasers(accelerated warm-ups based on your current TEKS), PBL Projects(enrichment projects based on district purchased GT Curriculum ), and Interest Stations(passion stations of interest where students can write, create, engineer, compose music, challenge themselves with math, etc)
What should they bring?
AIMers will always bring their yellow folder with them to AIM. Each week they will be given a reflection sheet and notes what we did that day and also a behavior chart. I ask the students to show their parents/guardians both of these papers and to sign it.
I do assign home extensions for the duration of each project. I reward the students who complete their work with dolphin tickets.
What's the schedule?
I'm only at Decker on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I see 1st-3rd grade on Wednesdays and 4th and 5th graders on Thursdays. 4th and 5th grade AIMers will rotate on an A/B day schedule so that they’re not missing the same subject every Thursday. AIMers will go to lunch, recess, and specials with their class.
If you feel like your student is falling behind by being pulled, please don't hesitate to talk to me so we can work out a plan. The program is not a one size fits all program and may need adjusting to meet individual needs.
Opportunities to see their projects
AIMers have an end of year symposium displaying passion projects called Mindspill.
There will be a district symposium as well this year. They are hoping to have one in the Fall and one in the Spring.
I will also have an AIM Parent Night where you will have the ability to see your students work as well.
The best way to contact me is by email because I work at two locations. My email is email@example.com
I know this year is going to be an amazing school year!
