Welcome to 5th Grade!

Welcome to 5th grade at Decker Elementary School! I am excited to be a part of the DES family and continue to build relationships with the staff, students, and parents.

Manor Independent School District is near and dear to my heart.  My family and I have lived in Manor for 18 years and am amazed at all the changes our little community has gone through, but I am even more excited to see the changes as it continues to grow.

You and I are partners in your child's education.  As your partner in your child's education I will do all that I can to ensure your child achieves his or her potential. I believe communication is essential in helping the child succeed and will reach out to you to celebrate your child's successes and discuss how we can help if your child is in need of more assistance. Everything I do in the classroom is what I want for my own children because your child becomes my child too!

I look forward to a wonderful year and making memories as we reach new educational heights.  Please do not ever hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  I can be reached by text at (512) 963-7666 or  email at Tabatha.Darilek@Manorisd.net.  Again, welcome to fabulous fifth grade!

~ Mrs. Darilek

STAAR Test Dates

5th grade takes three STAAR tests:
Math (Tuesday, April 10) (Retest- May 14)
Reading (Wednesday, April 11) (Retest May 15)
Science (Wednesday, May 16)

Science Tutoring

As of now we do not have a designated day for science tutoring.  Please stay tuned for upcoming dates for Science Camp.

If students are struggling I am available to meet with them before school and during lunch.

Test Info

Vocabulary is extremely important in science and that is why most of their homework is vocabulary to help them improve their knowledge and understanding of the words.

Every Friday they will have a vocabulary check, if the student makes below a 70 please sign the vocabulary check, have the student write the missed words and definitions on a separate sheet of paper, and return the corrections and original test on Monday to earn credit toward that test score.

Homework

Students will have the following homework daily:

Science:
The words and definitions are given to the students each week.
Monday- Write the word and definition for each word (10 words).
Tuesday- Write examples and non-examples for each word
Wednesday- Write a sentence using each word.
Thursday- Study for Vocabulary check
Friday- Vocabulary check

Spelling:
The words are the high frequency list and the students have the list in their AVID binder.
Monday- Write each word 4 times each
Tuesday- Write each word 3 times each
Wednesday- Write each word 2 times each
Thursday- Write each word 1 time each
Friday- Spelling test

If students do not turn in their homework for science on Friday they may turn it in on Monday minus 10 points for being late.
